GuruScan is found by Dion Slijp and Bart Verheijen. The first version of GuruScan was developed within Océ R&D in 2003 (named ExpertFinder back then). After this initial development followed the first pilot at Océ R&D. In 2006 an improved version was applied in the European Knowledge Management research project Metis. Metis was a project of Telematica Instituut (the Netherlands) with Océ and Basell as industrial partners. From the academic world the universities of Eindhoven, Twente and Delft were involved. As a last activity within this research project the second pilot was conducted at the Telematica Instituut. Besides the Metis project there were also a few installations in the field of primary education.
Based upon these promising user experiences, Dion and Bart decided to commercialize GuruScan in a spin-off from Océ. Supported by an exclusive license from Océ for free usage of the ExpertFinder technology, the core of the GuruScan software.
